SYNOPSIS
Deloris Van Cartier, a sassy club singer, accidentally stands witness to a murder and flees to a local police station for assistance. With the help of Eddie ‘Sweaty Eddie’ Souther, Deloris goes into hiding at the very last place anybody would expect her to be – the Queen of Angels convent, in a habit.
Deloris’ fiery, spunky personality causes clashes with the stern Mother Superior, and with the hopes to keep Deloris busy and out of trouble, the Mother Superior asks Deloris for assistance with the convent’s off-key choir. Deloris teaches the choir proper harmonies, disco dancing, vocal skills, and the newly energized choir becomes a massive success. However, when Deloris’ boyfriend Curtis – the murderer – sees the choir on television, he recognizes Deloris and sets out to find her.
Sister Act is one of those productions you simply can’t help but to love – from the camp and comedy right down to the stunning music, from the embodiment of the energetic characters to the powerhouse vocal deliveries. It’s entertainment at its very best!

HISTORY & LEGACY
A film such as the 1992 hit Sister Act featuring Whoopi Goldberg can’t simply be left at that – the screen. It’s destined for something bigger and more timeless – something only live theatre can provide. Writing duo Bill and Cheri Steinkellner wrote a wonderful book oozing with witty dialogue, razor-sharp one-liners, and underneath it all, genuine emotional depth, while world-renowned composer Alan Menken composed an entire original disco-tinged score, with lyrics by Glenn Slater. While the stage adaptation has many changes from the film, and completely comprises original music instead of the well-known songs from the film, the musical is absolute perfection with the main story perfectly intact. In fact, it is a promise that Sister Act will be one of your favorites ever!
Sister Act premiered at the Pasadena Playhouse in October 2006, becoming the highest-grossing production ever staged at the venue. Critics said that it had “Broadway written all over it” – and after opening on the West End at the London Palladium in 2009, Sister Act finally had its Broadway premiere in April 2011 at the Broadway Theatre.
Sister Act has received plenty of award nominations to date, including Laurence Olivier Award nominations for Best New Musical, Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score, among others, Drama Desk Award nominations, and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations.
