SYNOPSIS
When an enchantress disguised as an old beggar woman in need of lodging for the night arrives at the palace door of a conceited, vain, and spoiled young prince, with a single rose as compensation, the prince denies her entry, judging her by her ragged appearance. The beautiful enchantress turns back into herself and turns the prince into a hideous, monstrous Beast, and his staff into various household items. The enchantress’ curse can only be broken if the Beast falls in love and she loves him in return before the last petal of the rose falls.
After several years, and the rose’s last petal coming dangerously close to falling, a beautiful girl named Belle arrives at the palace in search of her father who went missing in the woods. She finds her father in the palace cells, and offers herself in his stead. The arrival of Belle brings new hope to the inhabitants of the palace – if the Beast could only fall in love with her, and she with him, the curse would be broken and their lives would return to normal.
But how does one make a beautiful girl fall in love with a hideous beast? What would happen if the arrogant Gaston, who has set his sights on Belle to become his beautiful little wife, realizes what is happening – where Belle is, who she is with, and what is happening between her and the Beast? How would a small provincial town react when Belle’s father tries to obtain help to free Belle – beasts don’t exist, or do they?
Apart from the timeless tale and the stunning award-winning score, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is a gift that reminds the world of the hopeful, eternal nature of a love that endures, even in the darkest of times. It brings hope, it nestles deep inside the heart, and will stay with you until the very end.

HISTORY & LEGACY
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST really is a tale as old as time.
The original fairy tale, as written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, was published anonymously in 1740 in a bundle of children’s stories. In 1756 the tale was revised, abridged and published in Magasin des enfants by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The latter is the most commonly told version of the fairy tale.
After nearly three centuries of the fairy tale being retold, generation after generation, Walt Disney Studios released the animated film version with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and screenplay by Linda Woolverton in 1991. After its massive box-office success and the realization that it ticked all the boxes for a stage musical, the creative team adapted and expanded the film for stage. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST premiered on Broadway in April 1994, becoming Broadway’s tenth longest-running show, grossing over $1.7 billion worldwide, and performed in 13 countries and 115 cities. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is also the recipient of multiple awards, including a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award,
It is fair to say that BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is one of Broadway’s most successful musical theatre productions to date, and will remain that for many years to come.
