SYNOPSIS

Neil Diamond finds himself in therapy, where his psychiatrist is reading the lyrics from a second-hand copy of The Complete Lyrics of Neil Diamond. This inspires a wonderful collage of scenes unpacking the times of exploration, deep reflection, joy and sorrow, and significant career and life-defining moments in the musician’s life – from his humble beginnings as a lonely Jewish child to receiving his first guitar as a birthday gift; from selling one song a week and earning just enough to feed himself to the sequined, sold-out concerts and becoming a Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and recipient of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award; from a broken marriage to his search for inner-peace while his career is being floored by a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis.

With all the music and lyrics by Neil Diamond himself, Anthony McCarten’s astounding book bringing gravitas and moments of perfectly timed lightness to the story, Michael Mayer’s incredible and visionary direction, and Steven Hoggett’s breathtaking choreography, a gem of a production has seen the light – one that is so incredibly fitting, like a hand in a glove. The production also features the creative talents of scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Emilio Sosa, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Jessica Paz, musical supervisor and arranger Sonny Paladino, vocal designer Annmarie Milazzo, incidental music and dance music arranger and orchestrator Brian Usifer, music coordinator John Miller, and producer Bob Gaudio.

A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL, the highly successful jukebox musical that breaks all the rules had its world premiere in Boston in 2022, after which it moved onto Broadway, premiering at the Broadhurst Theatre in December 2022. In the week leading up to its Broadway premiere, the musical grossed over $1 million at its box office, and stood on over $63 million at the time of its closing in mid-June 2024 after 657 performances. The massive North American tour kicked off in Providence, Rhode Island, and is now finally headed to Oklahoma City to tantalize the musical tastebuds of local Neil Diamond fans.
