Beauty And The Beast at Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, started out on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to try and hide this, it was forgotten because of the success of the Lion King. Since that date, there have been various attempts to bring the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a great run in London's West End, and an extensive tour of Australia, this new version is currently on a US tour. One of the stops will luckily be in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday 22nd January 2026.

In previous iterations of the show, the set design and the tone of the costumes were both on the darker side. This brought a lot of attention on The Beast character. This revival is taking a completely different approach. The focus is more on Belle, as it should be. This time around, the audience is greeted with creatively crafted sets and colorful costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the uplifting soundtrack, you start to see why both the British and Australian audiences loved this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the bright entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the ideal contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that people were incredibly amazed by this point in the story. Gaston's entrance and musical solo tend to be fan favorites. It's actually Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've chosen a great actress for the role.
