Beauty And The Beast at Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, debuted on Broadway back in 1994. There's no reason to sugarcoat this, it was bested because of the success of the Lion King. Since that date, there have been multiple attempts to put the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and an extensive tour of Australia, this new version is going on a US tour. One of the stops just so happens to be in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Wednesday 21st January 2026.

In other versions of the play, the design of the set and the colors of the costumes were both rather dark. This brought a lot of weight on The Beast character. This revival is taking a completely different approach. The emphasis is more on Belle, as it should be. This time around, the audience is treated to beautifully crafted backgrounds and colorful costumes that light up the stage. When you combine that with the uplifting soundtrack, you begin to see why both the British and Australian audiences loved this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village make, is the ideal counterpart to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that crowds were incredibly amazed by this point in the show. Gaston's entrance and musical performance tend to be loved by fans. It's really Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role.
