Beauty And The Beast at Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, debuted on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to lie about this, it was overshadowed because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been multiple attempts to take the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this new version is getting a US tour. One of the stops is going to be in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Friday 23rd January 2026.

In other versions of the show, the design of the set and the tone of the costumes were both rather dark. This brought a lot of weight on The Beast character. This new version is going in a completely different direction. The focus is more on Belle, as it the story demands. This time around, the audience is welcomed by thoughtfully crafted backgrounds and colorful costumes that burst off the stage. When you combine that with the uplifting soundtrack, you start to see why both the British and Australian theater goers took a liking to this revival. Forgive the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the perfect contrast to The Beast's world.
